Our history and our future

Fred Poole started the business in 1955 and it became APT in 1970 when David Bailey took over as Managing Director. Since then, we have grown in size, technology and knowledge to provide our customers with the best, most precise service in component design and manufacturing.

From the beginning, our ethos has always been to invest in the most up to date software and machinery while maintaining traditional values. APT is now in the capable hands of David’s daughter, Angela Whitmore, who co-manages the company with Nick Baller. Supported by production and technical managers, the team’s specialist knowledge ensures that APT’s components are of exceptional quality for all our customers.

We have recruited the best technicians and engineers to maintain our global reputation, as well as expanding and improving our machine stock. Today, we have over 20 lathes and CNC machining centres producing components on a 24/7 basis.

On our Leicestershire site, we are continuously growing our facilities. Our location offers fast road and rail infrastructure at the centre of the UK to deliver our components in the quickest time to our customers.

For decades, through our 4 year in-house scheme, we have trained our technicians in all aspects of the manufacturing process, not just to perform one function. This is to maintain the highest standard of expertise and the sense of ownership and responsibility in everyone who works for APT.

We are extremely thankful to APT who have provided us with the machining of spacers for our electric race car. The components are of the finest quality, machined on their automatic bar fed turning lathes which allows accurate finish and fast production time. We extend our thanks for their excellent communication, care and reliable service.
